Bruce MacKinnon’s War Memorial Tribute
We just had the privilege of framing Bruce MacKinnon’s War Memorial Tribute to Cpl. Nathan Cirillo.
The cartoon “suggests the coming to life of the bronzed First World War soldiers that sit atop the memorial. One soldier is bent over, supporting Cpl. Nathan Cirillo’s body. Others are reaching down as if to help, while still others stare stoically forward.”
I am struck by the powerful emotions this drawing evokes and I am reminded of how truly important the artists of the world are.
With one drawing, Mr. MacKinnon has conveyed the sorrow of a country, the tragedy of a lost life and the certainty that even in our darkest hour there are always those willing to help us…. all the while ensuring a historical event is not lost to the generations to come. The fact that a portion of all sales of this artwork are going to help out the Cirillo family tops it all off.
